Where can I buy tungsten carbide screws?
I am looking to make my own studded tires for my mountain bike and I want something that is a little more durable than steel. Most of the manufacturers use tungsten carbide for their studded tires. Where can I get screws made of this material?
The reason I am going for carbide is because it is extremely hard, and will not wear down when the bike is ridden on concrete/rocks in between trails. I will look into titanium as a possible option. As much as I would love to go and buy some premade studded tires, at around $130 a tire for my bike, its just not worth it.
Mike, I don't think that anyone makes them. Tungsten carbide is not a good material for screws. It is hard, very hard, but will not take stress that a screw requires.
I suggest that you see if you can find a tire dealer who will sell you a studded bike tire. They will cost a lot! There are ice racers that use them.

Dan
