What is the best way to dry a basement?
Hairline cracks are starting and the basement is damp in our 8 year old house. We moved into it 1 year ago. Walls are block and there is an exterior drain around the footer that drains into the sump.
One waterproofer quoted over $16,000(interior floor drain, ventilation and 4 ft. deep waterproofing on the outside). The existing waterproofing appears to be sprayed on and is very thin.
Can I just have the exterior around the house excavated and better waterprooofing applied to the exterior?
I know excavating helped a lot in the case of my parent's basement. I would check around some more and do a little more research via the net before I handed over that much money to one guy. If you don't already have one you should also get a dehumidifier as that will also help a good bit. Good luck!
