How to correctly change valve cover on 98 eclipse gst turbo engine?
I change the valve cover on my past 2 cars (civic and another 98 eclipse gst) and when the jobs were complete I got a lot of smoke coming out the tail pipe (oil burning) and it never went away. What am I doing wrong, does it matter how long the cover is off because I usually leave it off over nite so I can paint the cover.
That is odd cause the valve cover gasket only keeps oil inside of the valve cover. You already have a vent (pcv) that allows air to circulate through it. Even if you did get a small leak through the gasket; it wouldn't cause oil through the exhaust. If the gasket is not sealed correctly; it will leak oil on the head.
