Can replacing a catalytic converter be a quick fix to pass an emissions test?
My car failed the state inspection emissions test. The HC was a little over what it was supposed to be. The Nox was TWICE was it was supposed to be - limit was 1500NOX but mine was about 3000! My question is that if I replaced the cat converter with a new one would it pass the test? I realize that the right thing to do is find out what is wrong and get it fixed, but right now I need the car to pass.
Do your first suggestion. Considering most cats are not cheap, just to replace and see if you can pass the emissions test.
