Science behind rod bolt torquing?
When I was rebuilding my engine(626, 1998, 1,8l) I did not know how much it should be and tightened rod bolts approximately around 20Nm first and then 90 degrees more. I was able to rotate crankshaft using wrench on pulley bolt. Some cars like Audi have 60Nm for rod bolts, i think in that case crankshaft will be fixed too stiff that you cant rotate it using a wrench, therefore it will be too much load for starter to rotate the crankshaft first and if it starts it will be too hard for engine to rotate the crank. That is what I think.
Before disassembling the pistons I was easily able to rotate the crankshaft therefore I assumed it has to be the same after assembling back.
Any engine pros?
I think it is a good idea to get a shop manual for the car, rod bolts are tightened by a torque wrench using lbs per square inch, I have no clue what tightening rod bolts around 20nM then 90 degrees more, actually means ok?
