Stall Torque
With a torque converter what does it mean when its a 2500 or 3000 stall ?
When I hear someone at the track say that they have 2500 stall converter im left in the dark. What does it mean
if you have a stock converter in your trans the rpm is 1500 this is where the engine speed will be against the torque converter before the rear wheels will begin to turn,if the converter is 2500 you can rev the engine to 2500 rpm before you are against the converter and the rear wheels will want to move,so in drag racing you want to have the highest rpm at the line before you leave to have a faster quarter mile time and also a faster 60 ft time.for example if you have a stock converter at 1500 rpm,and i have a 2500 stall converter i will leave the line faster and harder than you will so i should cross the finish line before you..and the cam shaft will determine the size of stall in the converter, any cam shaft with a 280 duration will need a higher stall converter so you can get the most from your engine, trans and rear end gears,
